Who wrote it? Who were they writing to? Why did they write it? What did they write? (ex. history, poetry, prophecy, letter, etc.) What did they mean?

The Mystery of Melchizedek...

Image
Who is this mystery man? After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings that allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).   Then Melchizedek king of Salem (which I believe is short for JERUSALEM.  Although many theologians think it was a literal place)  brought out bread and wine.  He was a high priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High,

DEEPER SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES: HOW TO STUDY THE BIBLE Many of us know about anorexia.  The definition for anorexia is a lack or loss of appetite for food. It is an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.  Then we also know about its wicked counter part bulimia.  Which the definition of bulimia is an emotional disorder involving distortion of body image and an obsessive desire to lose weight, in which bout of extreme overeating are followed by depression and self-induced vomiting, purging, or fasting.   We are a people who suffer from one of these two diseases spiritually. We can be spiritual anorexics in that we never feed ourselves off of the scriptures. We skip this part as a whole.  We come to church and eat on Sunday only and expect that that is good enough.  We check that off our list and carry on.  Or we are spiritual bulimics in that we like to eat… we come to church, we listen to...

DEEPER SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES: SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION: For some of us…we’ve been around the Bible a little bit.  We grew up in church…have heard a lot of sermons…we have 3 or 4 Bibles at home. But for most of us we walk through our lives doing our own thing but all the while the very thing that we need collects dust on our coffee table or bookshelf.  We hardly see it as life changing…we may go to it when we experience unexpected relational, financial, marriage or family trouble but for most of us…it remains there.  God has given us His Word that we can either ignore it or leverage it.  We can ignore it and there will be consequences.  Or you can embrace the truth that’s found in it and you can see the fruit that comes from knowing it!     In Jesus time the Jewish children would grow up knowing the Bible.  By the time a child was 12 years old, the average child would have the “Torah” memorized.  The “Torah” was...
