Finishing Well... George Beverly Shea
I will never forget a conversation I had with my Pastor and great friend Scott Hatfield. I told Him I probably only had a few more years to lead worship before I was out dated and no longer affective. I truly believed that... He really challenged me and was almost offended by that. His reaction was surprising to me and really made me think about what I had been believing and telling myself. God immediately when I began to ask Him about that really chastised me as well. I see, know and want to be a Worship Pastor for the rest of my life now. I know as I get older it will look different sure. Being a Worship Pastor is about leading PEOPLE. Being a Worship Leader is about leading SONGS. I want to be a Worship Pastor for the rest of my life. And I am so thankful that God has called me to do so. I truly look forward to guys lie Rick Muchow who faithfully served Rick Warren as his Worship Pastor since 1980 until just recently. That is something to be proud of! And the person I think of the most when it comes to being a Worship Pastor and finishing the race strong is George Beverly Shea. George Beverly Shea just recently passed away on April 16th, 2013. He became a Worship Pastor at the age of 20 in 1929 until 2013! He was most know for writing the great hymn I'd Rather Have Jesus and for serving Billy Graham Association as a Worship Pastor from 1947 to 2013. What a faithful and wonderful example to follow! Jesus allow me to be faithful to your call like this wonderful man of God!
Below is a video from 1987 of George Beverly Shea singing the hymn he wrote at a Billy Graham Crusade.
