Psalm 47

Image
Psalm 46, 47 & 48 are all tied together.  They are Psalms of celebration.  It just so happens that these Psalms are celebrating God's deliverance and victory over a common enemy.  The enemy was most likely from 2 Kings chapters 18 and 19, the Assyrians. Sennacherib the king of the Assyrians began making his way up to Jerusalem conquering every city he passed a long the way with brutal attacks. Hezekiah the king of Israel was filled with fear and worry for what could happen to the Israelites. The prophet Isaiah came to his side to comfort him with the Words of the Lord. Isaiah gives a prophecy to Hezekiah telling him what God was going to do with the Assyrians who are mounting up and attack.  As usual God comes through as He always does and the people of Israel are amazed at what God just delivered them from.  What seemed to be the impossible, immanent brutal death, God delivered them. God is faithful and always does what He promises He will do.  One ...

Psalm 37

Image
This Psalm is one that I have never really spent a lot of time reading or even looking into.  But as I have been really studying through the Psalms a lot over the past month there have been many Psalms that have caught my heart. I have also been trying to really learn to focus and ask God what He is speaking to me specifically through what i am reading.  God really spoke to me in Psalm 37... We know that Psalm 37 was a Psalm that David wrote when he was older in age because of verse 25.  If you are like me you enjoy listening to stories from older people.  I can sit and listen to an older person sit and talk about their life, their job, what it was like growing up and much more and at the end of my time I learned something.  I really feel like David wants us to hear some sagely wisdom here and it is some that I really need not only right now in my life but that we all need to be reminded of often. It's as if David is telling us, "This is a Psalm to live by....

Our VIP Weekend @ Newspring Church

Image
I got to attend a weekend with NewSpring Church in Anderson, South Carolina and it was an incredible time.  It was easy to see the minute I got on the campus why this church has become one of the largest churches in America have just over 65,000 members on different campuses all over South Carolina. Once you arrive on the campus they have a sign asking if it is your first time to please turn your car flashers on. This was incredible.... as soon as they saw us the parking attendants went nuts!  They were jumping, doing the NWO Scott Hall arm gesture, and much more.  It wasn't creepy, weird or over the top, it was just FUN!  You could tell from the beginning that their volunteers were going to be very special and that they came ready to give 110%! They immediately directed us to a from row parking spot that had a sign saying it was saved for 1st Timers. As soon as we stepped out of the car a young lady was waiting for us to great us and introduce herself. S...

Our VIP Weekend @ Elevation Church

Image
So I got to attend a Sunday night service at Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC at the Blakeney Campus. The area of Charlotte probably has now officially become one of my favorite areas in the country.  I could easily live there. Once we pulled onto the street to get to the church they had signs asking if it was your first time to the church to turn on your car flashers.  Once the parking team noticed it they immediately sent you to prime front row parking.  At Elevation they call first time guests VIP's.  Also, a part of being a VIP is to immediately go to the black VIP tent right outside the front doors where they give your a bunch of free stuff!  We filled out the paper work needed to put our daughter into her Elevation Kids class then we were given a VIP packet with a free CD and message from Pastor Steven Furtick.   They walked us to the Kids check in and the kids volunteers had Greenlee (our daughter) jumping up and down with excitement...

My Weekend and Thoughts About Visiting Passion City Church

Image
So I got an inside look into the amazing stuff going on at Passion City Church in Buckhead (ATL), Georgia. I learned so many great things about how they communicate, lead, set vision, and much more that I wanted to share my thoughts from visiting.  Plus a bunch or pictures below. HERE ARE THE MAIN THINGS I LEARNED FROM THEIR LEADERSHIP TEAM ABOUT HOW THEY LEAD, GUIDE AND DIRECT THE PEOPLE OF PASSION CITY CHURCH! The lead story (the headline) at Passion City Church is always the same and that is that "Jesus Is Alive." No matter what happens on a Sunday nothing trumps this!  At most of our churches the focus can be on that the chairs weren't set up correctly or that something didn't get put back the way it should have.  Those things can and should be addressed, but they are so far down the line in importance.  The fact that Jesus Is Alive is the main thing! As a leader our main job is to consistently cast vision every second in every conversation.  E...

Lift Worship Leader Collective (Main Session Two)

Image
(These are my notes from the Main Session Two from Lift Worship Leader Collective 2013 at Passion City Church) Matthew 20:20-28 (ESV) "Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” He said to them,“You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever...

Lift Worship Leader Collective (Main Session One)

Image
(These are my notes from the Main Session One from Lift Worship Leader Collective 2013 at Passion City Church) The main thing our churches need from us as worship pastors is for us to have more and more of HIM.  Not better songs and worship sets... Our mission as worship pastors should be to lead people to have authentic, meaningful encounters with Jesus every worship experience. We as worship pastors are direct descendants of the Levites. We have the exact same calling as they did in the Bible which is to carry the presence of God to the people. We have in some miraculous and amazing way been given the calling to carry something.  To carry the very person of and presence of Jesus to people.  It is more than a sermon.  It is more than a set list.  We are carriers of God to the people. 2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (ESV) "But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that they surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.  We are afflicted in every ...
