First of all, big props to our Lead Pastor Scott Hatfield blogging right here for the first time ever while Kristy and I were away (lots of loud applause and cheering inserted here)!

This weekend Scott talked about Greed. When I say greed what do you think of? Most of us although we are a little greedy don't view ourselves as greedy people. Luke 12:15 reminds us that there is all kinds of greed that we need to guard ourselves from. There is a HOARDING type of greed. There is a TAKING type of greed. And there is an ACCUMULATING type of greed. Scripture is very clear that we as Christ followers "not store up for ourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. " (Matthew 6:10, Paraphrase mine). But in order to break all kinds of greed is to give generously. Our mindset should be "I LOVE TO GIVE AND I LIVE TO GIVE!" We as Christ followers are supposed to be JOYFUL givers. In the church we sings songs like "I Surrender All"... one of the most powerful songs of all time. We can sing this song will all the passion in the world. But when the offering is being taken up we have a hard time of "surrendering five bucks". We have to change the way we think of our money... because it really isn't even our money, its God's money. You might need a quick refresher course from Dave Ramsey... so take a look at this.

The best way to break free from the bondage of yourself and greed is to make percentage giving a part of your weekly life. Give a couple bucks when the band does a song you like or the message was good doesn't really work. The church isn't here to provide you with entertainment. You are supposed to participate. In the Old Testament it tells us to give 10% of our income. But I asked this... if that is what they were supposed to give under the Law; how much more should we be given based off of grace?
