This week Pastor Scott challenged us to not be like many churches... while also not being like many churches. Are you confused? Good. There are many churches and you have seen them, because they are usually attached to something. Have you seen people wearing sandwich board with threats of hell on them? Have you seen people handing out tracks telling people about how they are going to hell? The best is the guys with the bullhorn's yelling at people. Or the creepy people who come to your door and try to sell you to Christianity right there on the spot. WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO BE LIKE THESE CHURCHES! But we don't want you to be like the majority of churches either. Most churches in America has a come and see mentality. They expect people to come to them... but this isnt the case. We are called to go and be fishers of men. Jesus' last words to the beginning of the church to the 11 disciples was this which is found in Matthew 28:16-20 - "6Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Therefore GO! In my message last week I reminded us that this section of scripture is called The Great Commission not the great suggestion. We are called to go. But if you look at Jesus how he would "go" it wasn't with bullhorns, sandwich boards, signs or anything like that. It was by telling his story. We are called to share out story... both with actual words and with our life all together. 1 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT) tells us to always be ready to share and explain our faith. But here is the best part... it says, "But do this in a gentle and respectful way." So this week SHINE for Jesus. With your life and with your words. Tell people about the things God has done in your life. Brag about what an amazing God we have. He is worth boasting in.
Scott challenged us to read Paul's conversion story. By reading this it can help us shape our story. You can read Paul's story in Acts 26:4-23.
