Words are very powerful. Words can change our mood. They can brighten our day or ruin it. Our words have a lot of power. But the words of God can radically change our life for eternity.

This weekend we looked at a story about Moses that most people don't tend to think about. Moses is a major part of the Old Testament and the history if Christianity. When we think of Moses we think of his birth and being sent down a river to avoid certain death. We think of the ten commandments. We think of Charlton Heston. We think of parting the red sea. We think of how God used him to deliver the Israelites out of the hand of Pharaoh. But we don't think about the 40 years he spent from age 40 until he was 80 running and hiding in the dessert. But what Moses learned in those 40 years in the dessert is crucial to you and I can change everything for us. Our times that we have spent in the dessert are not normally the times we want to think about or remember. Mostly because were tough times. They were tough times for Moses, because he was an outcast. But sometimes you can learn things in the dessert that you can't learn anywhere else. During these 40 years in the dessert God was preparing Moses' heart to hear two words from Him. Sometimes we go through rough times because God wants to share something with us... but when things are good we tend to not have time for God. But in the end God cares more about our character that He does our comfort.

Right before the stories of Moses that we have all heard about a significant event happens in Moses' life. God speaks to Him in the burning bush. As God is telling Moses his plan for his life and how God himself is going to use Moses to save the Israelites God tells Moses, "you tell the people that I AM is sending you." God is I AM! What does God being I AM mean for us? It means...

He is transcendent. I am not!

He is perfect. I am not!

He is extrinsically holy. I am not!

He is infinite. I am not!

He is limitless. I am not!

He is unfailing. I am not!

He is all-knowing. I am not!

He is all-powerful. I am not!

He is all-present. I am not!

And maybe you have been asking God some questions lately about your life. And today His answer to you is I AM. Maybe your questions are like this...

  • “Who’s gonna take care of me now that we’re going through this divorce?” I AM.
  • “Who’s gonna be there when I walk back in that empty house?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me through all the crap in my life?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to be there when everybody turns their back and when everything falls apart? I AM.
  • “Is there a bail out plan for me?” I AM.
  • “Who’s gonna wipe away the guilt & shame of my secrets and my past?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to mend my broken heart?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me find a job?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me pick up all the pieces?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me with my addictions?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to walk with me on this scary road to recovery?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me with my fear, anxiety & depression?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to make sure that all these wrongs are made right someday?” I AM.
  • “Is there something more to this life?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me know what I’m supposed to do with my life?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to change my story?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me through the storms of life?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to value me?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to love me no matter what?” I AM.
  • “Who’s going to help me become the man or woman that I was made to be?” I AM.
And God wants us to know that He has always been. Always will be. I AM with you! And those two word have the power to change everything in your life. I am not strong enough, smart enough or good enough. But I do know that I am not but I know I AM! Wherever you have been, whatever you've done, whatever's been done to you... I AM is more than enough for you!"
