Rules are a hard thing for most people. Sometimes we hear a rule and think... "MAN THAT IS DUMB". Most of the time when you talk to people about Church or God or anything "religious" people think of all the rules. Most people don't go to church because of hypocrites, judgementalism and rules or legalism. But as we have seen throughout this series that Jesus hates all these things. Jesus came not to give us a religion for God but a relationship with God. all throughout scripture you see the Pharisees trying there hardest to catch Jesus doing something "illegal". Pharisees acted like most churches and most christians today.. rules and doing what is right is more important than people. Jesus was the opposite... loving people are far more important than anything else. Rules without a relationship always results in rebellion.
As you began reading and understanding more and more about Jesus and who he was you see that the rules in the Bible are not about having rules and see who all can follow them strictly. The hard thing is people are either on one side of the spectrum or the other. They are either all about the rules and keeping them or all grace all the time and if you mess up and don't keep the rules then that is ok. BOTH OF THOSE ATTITUDES DO NOT REFLECT THE LOVE OF JESUS. Jesus says in John 14:15, "If you love me you will obey and keep my commands." God gives us rules because of His love for us not because He wants to have a bunch of rules.
