We started this brand new series called UNLEARN this week because we believe that in order to be the people that we were created to be we have to unlearn who we've become. Before we were born God had an exact idea of who He wanted us to be. But through our life we all get off track and become a different people. We are surrounded by things that change us... and the number one things is culture and other people. At the beginning of every year we tend to look back over the previous and think about starting a fresh new year and we get excited about that. But we want to begin the new year UNLEARNing things from the past year so that when we get to the end of 2011 we will be people who resemble Jesus a lot more! In order to UNLEARN things we have to EXAMINE ourselves and our past to learn from our mistakes. We want to help you examine this past year. So take some time to look over these questions and truly think through them:
- What are you thankful for?
- What were some of the areas that you grew?
- Where were some of the regrets & losses of 2010 that you need to grieve with God?
- What are some the hurdles, challenges & fears that restrict growth in your life?
- What would it look like if you partnered with God in 2011?
- What could your life, your relationships & your walk with Christ look like if you sold out to make 2011 the best year yet?
The other thing we need is RENEWAL. If we want a different life we have to live differently. Romans 12:1-3 says, 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
The next thing we have to do is learn to FOLLOW. It's not just that I believe in God but that I believe God.
So lets have this as our New Years resolution for 2011. We want to look, live and love a little more like Jesus in 2011.
