This weekend I had the privilege of talking about UNLEARNing WORSHIP. This is something that I believe the Church really needs to UNLEARN. Some how in America we have shrunk worship into 15-30 minutes of singing on Sunday. We were created by God to be WORSHIPERS. Worship is a full life response to the greatness and grace of God.
Romans 12:1 says, Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. And John 4:23 says, Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. The important thing I want us to gather out of these two scriptures is the God is seeking after TRUE WORSHIPERS. If there is true worshipers that must mean there are false worshipers as well. I think we have to UNLEARN being false worshipers and learn to be TRUE worshipers. Because TRUE worshipers is what GOd is seeking. I believe there are 5 keys to being a TURE worshiper.
1.) Is asking if God is happy? False worshipers have this idea that church is for them. They want to sing the songs they like, to the style they like. But the news flash is that the CHURCH EXISTS FOR GOD... not you and I. The TRUE worshipers heart always seeks to please God first and realize that is God is happy of course we will be blessed because we always get something out of what God does.
2.) TRUE worship is about what we see. Romans 12:1 reminds us that when we offer sacrifices to do it in view of God's mercy. When we worship God we should always do it in view of God's grace. Worshiping in view of GOd's grace means coming prepared to offer a SACRIFICE, it is singing the songs we sing thinking about the Cross, it is adjusting our hearts, it is stillness and awe, surrender, repentance, desperation, gratitude and readiness. TRUE worshipers realize all of these things.
3.) TRUE worshiper makes us alive! We should be passionate and on fire about everything God is doing in, through, and around us.
4.) TRUE worship transforms us. TRUE worshipers are becoming more and more like Jesus... little by little, day by day from glory to glory.
5.) TRUE worship is a demonstration. TRUE worshipers demonstrate and reciprocate the gift and the love that was given to us through Christ Jesus. Our personal and corporate worship is our statement to the world who God is and what He is like. If our worship isn't sending us out to touch the world, if it isn't reaching the lost, then we are missing the mark.
TRUE worshipers seek to make God happy every day. TRUE worshipers worship because we have an amazing view of His mercy and grace. TRUE worshipers are alive because of the new life that Christ gives. TRUE worshipers are being transformed by GOD'S WORD because we want to be radically different than the world. TRUE worshipers allow our one and only life to be a demonstration of God's love and grace to this world.
UNLEARN false worship and LEARN TRUE WORSHIP.
God would you help Resonate realize that we need to look drastically different than the world. That we wouldn't be just like everyone else but with a Christian stamp on it!
