This weekend Pastor Scott talked about UNLEARNing Parenting... Most parents believe that in order to be a great parents we are supposed to make our kids first, do it better than our parents did, make up for lost time, and to make our kids happy as much as possible. That is what the world tell us a good parent is.
The Bible however is a little different. The Bible tells us that parenting is the process of teaching and training our children to love God, love people and leave home. So there is three parts to Biblical Parenting. The first element is the teaching element. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says, 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. The second element is the training element. Provers 22:6 tells us to, Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. The third and final element is the leaving element. Genesis 2:24 says, 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
So lets UNLEARN parenting how the world tells us to parent and begin parenting the ways God's Word tell us.
