Kris Kross and the Biggest Lie I Ever Told...
"I'll make ya rump, rump, wiggle and shake ya rump. 'Cause I'll be kicking the flavor that makes ya wanna jump. How high? Real high! Cause I'm just so fly."
"Some of them try to rhyme but they can't rhyme like this!"
"I ran down the hill tryin to catch the bus. I missed the bus, ohhh."
Who would have thought these words would change my life forever... When I was 11 and in the 5th grade I became completely obsessed with Kris Kross! I even wore my jeans backwards and an Oakland A's jersey backwards to school one day. I wore Oakland because I'm hardcore and kind of a hood rat. Dont laugh I have street cred! But any way... I remember it like it was yesterday. I wanted to go to WalMart and buy Totally Krossed Out. So I begged my older brother Joey to go and buy it for me. It was July 4th in 92' and he wanted me to call my Mom to check and make sure that she would repay him so that he could have money to go to the 4th of July festivities. So I called my Mom and she said what most moms say... "NO!" I thought it would be smart to tell my brother that Mom said yes. So he bought me the Kris Kross album which was one of the top albums of all time! Right? I couldn't wait to unwrap that CD and listen to all the hits! The one part I forgot to really think through was what was going to happen once Mom got home and my brother asked her for his money... I should have thought about that. Needless to say it didn't turn out well for me. I missed out on the fireworks, the greased pig, the egg toss and some terrible band doing Waylon Jennings covers. I remember feeling so terrible to lie and hurt people that I loved for the first time. Its funny to look back on now, but I will never forget how I felt after my first big lie. Its crazy to think that Kris Kross album could impact your life forever but it did. I never lied again!... until just then.
