Sunday morning was a great morning of worship as Rob, Carly, and Mark lead us in worship. Then we begun our second week of our series How To Eat An Elephant as I spoke about How To Study The Bible. Last week Scott gave us an overview of the Bible and really broke down a lot of things for us so we have a better grasp of God's Word's to us. This Sunday my goal was to help us understand how to hear from the Lord and how to spend time reading and allow God to speak to us through His Word. MY hope was to catch us on fire about His Word. That the Bible would become our favorite book. That we would realize the importance of DAILY reading His Words to us. These are the thing I challenged us to get!

1.) You have to have a sacred time and place. You have schedule something out that you know everyday, at this specific place, at this specific time I am going to read my Bible and ask God to speak to me. If you don't do this it wont happen and you will never see any consistency.

2.) You have to buy a Bible. I encouraged you to by a Word for Word translation (New King James or ESV) study Bible. Get a good one!

3.) Get a pen and some highlighters. So as your reading when a scripture sticks out to you can highlight it.

4.) Get a reading plan. You need something to help you pick what you are going to read. It is good to have something tell us what we are going to read from day to day because we would miss out on some amazing books of the Bible (especially the Old Testament) if we didn't go by a reading plan.

5.) You need to get a journal. A journal is the place where after you have finished reading you can write out the scripture or scriptures that stuck out to you. Then you can write out your own paraphrase of what you just read, your own summary. Then write out some action steps for you with the verse. The key is to apply what you learned to your everyday life. Then pray and I would encourage you to write out your prayers as well.

6.) Always have a blank sheet of paper with you. When you are reading you will think of everything else in the world that you have to get done while reading scripture. This way you can write down whatever it is that you need to remember and then get back to reading.

I hope this weekend and series has been extremely helpful to you. Go and check out our podcast on iTunes if you have missed a week.
