Band: Drums: Mark Monteiro Bass: HD Messinger Electric Guitar: Rob Sherrod BGV's: Carly Absher Acoustic, Electric, Loops, & Lead Vocals: (Me), Jason Eaton Songs: Love Came Down (Brian Johnson) Yahweh (Hillsong) How He Loves (John Mark McMillian) *Apologize (One Republic) This weekend we finished up our series called Toxic where we looked at sins that can really become toxic to the heart if we don't deal with and allow God to remove them from our hearts. We have looked at Matthew 15:18 a lot where it says, "But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean'." As well as Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." We finished up the series by talking about Anger. Anger is one of those things that can come up from nowhere in an instant. Ephesians 4:26 tells us, "In your anger do not sin". Basically, you are going to get angry, that's a given. But do...

Band: Acoustic & Lead Vocals: Rob Sherrod BGV's: Mary Beth Holmes Songs: I Adore You (Phil Wickham) Your Love Never Fails (Chris McClarney) Healer (Hillsong United) * Take The Money And Run (Steve Miller Band) First of all, big props to our Lead Pastor Scott Hatfield blogging right here for the first time ever while Kristy and I were away (lots of loud applause and cheering inserted here) ! This weekend Scott talked about Greed. When I say greed what do you think of? Most of us although we are a little greedy don't view ourselves as greedy people. Luke 12:15 reminds us that there is all kinds of greed that we need to guard ourselves from. There is a HOARDING type of greed. There is a TAKING type of greed. And there is an ACCUMULATING type of greed. Scripture is very clear that we as Christ followers "not store up for ourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. " (Matthew 6:10, Paraphrase mine). But in orde...

Vision 2010 Day 3 (Sessions #5,and #6)

Casey continued on his talk about the 5 Core Strengths That Grow Our Life. We have to remember that core strengths take time to develop. We have to understand that to grow our life to become more like Christ is vastly important. Survival if not the goal. We don't want to be the type of Christian that says things like... "well praise God I'm just tryin to make it til He returns" or "well I'm not really growin'". STAGNATION IS NOT AN OPTION IN THE BIBLE! So we have to come up with ways to grow in our walk with Jesus. James tells us to 'stir ourselves up'. It is our responsibility to stir up our growth. So it is a good thing for us personally to come up with to push us to grow. Core Strength's: 3.) Relationships. We have to be in relationships that make us become more like Jesus. We have to! 4.) Our Lives Should Connect With Every Kind Of People Group. If in our life we are only around people who are just like us then our world is to...

Vision 2010 Day 2 (Sessions #2, #3, and #4)

Pastor of Christian Faith Center Dr. Casey Treat spoke about 5 Core Strength That Grow Your Life. Core strengths and values are what are important to us. They are the controlling factor in our lives. We cannot have opposing beliefs! Core Strength's: 1.) You have to have a clear and motivating vision and mission from JESUS. Our Vision should always inspire us to invest! It always has to be worth the cost! When you close your eyes you should see more than when they are open. A lot of the time we are to busy to hear a vision from Jesus because we are trying to be someone else. Whatever we do we cannot get bored with our vision and mission. Because when we get bored that is when we get in trouble. Look at David... he was supposed to be out fighting with his troops in battle and he decided to stay at home one time. The Bible says he woke up at noon! He was bored and that is when he met what would be his demise Bathsheba. Don't get bored with your vision and mission! 2.) T...

Vision 2010 (1) from Jason Eaton on Vimeo . Vision 2010 (2) from Jason Eaton on Vimeo . Vision 2010 (3) from Jason Eaton on Vimeo . It's always fun to worship with people you don't know who believe the same things as you do. It is an awesome reminder that heaven is going to be very diverse and fun! So it was a blast to worship at that house! SESSION # 1 ~ Bishop T.D. Jakes T.D. spoke off the scripture Isaiah 43:13-21 where God tells us that He wants to do a NEW thing in and through us! But we can't do something new until we let go of the old things that scripture goes on to say. How many times does God want to do something in us but we cant because we are crippled by our past? Too many times! We are always 'fixin to'. How many of you know you cant move forward if you foot gets stuck. Even if you have one foot moving forward as hard as it can but your other foot is still stuck. What happens? You fall on your face! God tells us He will do a new thing is...

So I attended an amazing conference this past week at Christian Faith Center which is under the direction of Pastor's Casey & Wendy Treat. I am going to take the next few days and unpack all that I learned from this conference. But for now I am going to share what I learned from a breakout session from Israel Houghton. But first I want to help everyone with the pronunciation of Israel's name... I am a visual learner so let me help you visually... ------Israel------ --------Hoe-------- -------- Ton---------- There, I hope this helps. Let's continue! Israel talked about Revelation 2:4. I love the Amplified Version so I will share from that, and it says. "But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love]. This is something that we as leaders have to cling tight onto and let this burden us. It is easy to begin to be all about the Lord's work and forget ...

Band: Acoustic and Vocals: Rob Sherrod BGV's: Mary Beth Holmes Songs: Mighty To Save (Hillsong Uunited) From The Inside Out (Hillsong United) Revelation Song (Jennie Lee Riddle) *Jealousy (Good Charlotte) Jealous? At first glance most of us would say, “No way!” Then as you peel back the onion...there are tinges of jealousy. • Jealous of somebody, their stuff, something that they have? • Would you say that your heart is at peace with everybody else & their successes or is there any toxins there? James 3:14-16 (NIV) 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. Proverbs 14:30 (NIV) 30 A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. Jealousy defined: Resenting Go...

Band: Acoustic & Vocals: Rob Sherrod Vocals: Carly Absher Songs: For Who We Are (Hillsong United) Hoy Is The Lord (Chris Tomlin) How Great Is Our God (Chris Tomlin) Resonate ReCap Video 03 07 10 from Jason Eaton on Vimeo . Guilt...it doesn’t take long for us to Google personal guilt in our lives does it? And if you sit there for more than 30 seconds a lot of different things come to mind. Stuff that happened a long time ago, stuff that we had forgotten about, stuff that’s really fresh—all kinds of stuff! I love to fact that as you read the gospels you will never find one instance where Jesus leveraged guilt towards anybody! I’m so thankful no where in Jesus’ life do you find Him ever manipulating, controlling or leveraging anyone’s past against them. Paul clarifies this in Romans 2:4 (NLT) 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? God’s...

Signs of a Lukewarm Worship Leader.... or Leader Period.

Image
So, this blog post isn't just necessarily for just worship leaders, but since I am one I figured I would right this from that perspective. But this is really for any leader to think and ponder over. I got the idea and the blog from fellow worship leader and blogger Carlos Whittacker. You should totally go and check out his blog over at Ragamuffin Soul . Also, you should get his E.P. on iTunes. But any way: A lukewarm worship leader: Prays more on stage than off stage. Cares more about how many songs he or she is leading than the overall shape of the service. Is overly sensitive to criticism. Is jealous or critical of someone else that God is blessing. Spends little if any time in the Word preparing to lead His Church. Sings more songs on stage than in personal worship. Spends more time mimicking other worship leaders then being shaped into the worship leader they were made to be. Says things on stage that his or her family NEVER hear them say off stage. Keep adding your own bu...

Songs: Faithful (Kristian Stanfill) Love Came Down (Brian Johnson) Blessed Be Your Name (Matt Redman) Band: Drums: Mark Monteiro Bass: HD Messinger BGV's: Mary Beth Holmes Electric & Lead Vocals: Rob Sherrod How’s your heart? Man, that’s a big question? This weekend we began a series that might be the most sobering, exhaustive, refreshing and life changing thing that we’ve done at Resonate! We’re going to take a deeper look at why we do it because we all do. Jesus spoke these profound words in Matthew 15:18 (NIV) 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' The stuff we say and the stuff that we do and we have no idea where it comes from. Our whole lives we’re constantly trying to fix a filter but we’ll neglect the real issue— the heart . I love Jesus because you find a man that clarifies what matters most to God and what should matter most to the church...the heart! It’s not the rules, it’s not about behaving ...

NEW SERIES BEGINNING February 28th!

Image
Proverbs 4:20-23 says, "My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body. Above ALL ELSE , guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." In this series we want to listen closely to these words. Sometimes we forget what forget what is going on in our heart because we board it up and want to forget things that go in inside out heart. But during this series we are going to do whatever is takes to open up our hearts completely to the Lord so he can expose and get rid of anything that is not of Him in our heart. It is going to hurt but in the end we will feel much better and we will be able to live life to its fullest. So over the next five weeks this is what it looks like: February 28th: What's Killing You? March 7th: Guilt March 14th: Jealousy March 21st: Greed March 28th: Pride So make sure you are there for...
